How Pregnancy Tests Work
A hormone called hCG, human chorionic gonadotropin, is produced when you become pregnant. A pregnancy test detects the amount of hCG hormone in your urine to determine if you are pregnant. Taking a pregnancy test is a very simple and pain-free experience.
When To Take A Pregnancy Test
According to the Mayo Clinic, it’s best to take a pregnancy test is at least one day after a missed period to get the most accurate results. At this point, your body has time to produce the right amount of hCG hormone to be accurately detected in a test.
Even though pregnancy tests can detect hCG in urine as early as four days before your missed period, it is more sensitive in the days after. You can receive a more accurate result from the test by waiting a little bit longer.
